Sharon Fisher
tSharon Fisher is a Yoga practitioner and teacher. She is a life long student of yoga both as a physical discipline and as a spiritual practice. Her background as an expressive therapist brings creativity and self-exploration into her teaching style. Working with people and facilitating self-development, has been her passion and her mission all of her adult life.
As with all genuine learning, personal experience has been Sharon’s greatest motivation to pursue her path. Yoga practice has brought greater balance and harmony into her life. The joy and depth that emerged as she explored the different aspects of yoga has been the inspiration to her desire for sharing it with her students (others).
Sharon has an M.A. in Expressive Therapy and worked in the field since 1983. For (close) to four years Sharon lived studied and practiced yoga and Vedanta at the Sivanada Ashram in Rishikesh, India, under the guidance of her guru, H.H Swami Chidananda. Living there close to the source of the Ganges and the source of such profound teachings, in the proximity of the great masters, has been a life transforming experience and the greatest blessing of her life.
“My teaching style is based on the understanding that Yoga is a vast, comprehensive and profound system; when utilized it allows us to gain a better understanding of ourselves and the world. It assists us to live a more balanced and harmonious life, to be at peace with ourselves and promote peace in the world. It is a direct path to a rich and fulfilling life and to the experience of inner happiness.
My intention as a teacher is to provide a safe, enjoyable and non-competitive environment at class. I encourage flow and creativity in my yoga classes, while guiding the students to adapt the yoga poses to their individual abilities and needs. Through this gentle approach that is infused with the attitude of loving kindness, the participant discovers not only an expanded ability but also self-acceptance.
It is my experience both as a practitioner and a teacher that one does not have to have the most flexible body, in order to practice yoga, but rather a flexible and open mind.”
Following the teachings of Swami Sivananda Sharon teaches an integrated approach to yoga, in her own Spiritual practices she combine Karma Yoga, Raja Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. “I find that chanting opens my heart to Pure love and that Jnana assists me in understanding that we are all One –Brahman”.
Sharon is the president of the Divine Life Society, Almeria Branch and holds different activities, such as monthly Satsang the first Friday of each month, Meditation Group the first Monday of each month and different workshops and charitable events.
“I have always had a deep interest in movement and creativity, dance is one way I connect to Spirit within. The beauty of nature inspires me on my Spiritual journey it connects me to our essence which is One.”
Since 2001 Sharon lives in Spain with her husband Brian who she describes as her teacher and mentor and who is a daily inspiration to her "Brian is a living example of how a Yogi lives a life of dedication, peace and sharing the teachings of Yoga".
Sharon Fisher teaches regular classes, workshops and retreats. In the future she is planning to teach in Europe and welcomes any invitation to teach.
